According to the Miami Herald, the Gilchrist County sheriff has officially withdrawn his order that deputies give at least one ticket every shift.  Sheriff Daniel Slaughter stated that people had voiced their concerns about excessive speeding in the area and it had not been intended as a quota. 

He cited statistics that showed most speeding tickets were being given by the same handful of officers while others rarely wrote them at all.  One deputy in particular had not written a ticket in over 10 years.  Sheriff Slaughter believed it would make everyone more accountable but, ultimately, the state attorney decided the policy raised too many concerns to remain in effect.
